Learn how to analyze your content for citation gaps and optimize it to earn more AI citations.
AI engines don't link to every page they reference — they cite the ones that contain structured, verifiable, quotable facts. Citation optimization helps you identify what's missing from your content and rewrite it so AI platforms are more likely to cite your pages.
Citation optimization follows a three-step cycle:
You can repeat this cycle as many times as needed. Each pass targets the remaining gaps until your content reaches the citation readiness level you're aiming for.
Vizzybl fetches your page content, evaluates it against six citation gap categories, and returns your Citation Readiness Score along with a detailed breakdown of each gap found.
Tip: If you've recently run a GEO audit on the same URL, Vizzybl reuses that data to speed up the analysis.
Every gap Vizzybl identifies falls into one of six categories. Each gap is assigned a severity level — high, medium, or low — based on how much it reduces your citation potential.
| Gap type | What it means | Example fix |
|---|---|---|
| Proprietary Data | Your content lacks original data or statistics that only you can provide | Add internal benchmarks, survey results, or usage metrics |
| Weak Hooks | Your opening statements don't give AI engines a compelling reason to cite this page | Lead with a specific claim, statistic, or insight |
| Missing Visual | No visual evidence or data visualization supports your claims | Add charts, infographics, or annotated screenshots |
| Generic Claims | Assertions that any competitor could make, with nothing unique backing them up | Replace with specific numbers, named examples, or case studies |
| No Statistics | The content contains no quantifiable evidence | Add percentages, counts, benchmarks, or time-based comparisons |
| No Expert Quotes | No authoritative voices support your claims | Include quotes from named experts, analysts, or customers |
High-severity gaps have the largest impact on your Citation Readiness Score. Focus on those first.
The Citation Readiness Score (0–100) predicts how likely AI engines are to cite your page. It combines fact density, content novelty, link authority, and data formatting into a single number.
| Score | Rating | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| 80–100 | Excellent | Your content is highly citable. Monitor for freshness and maintain your data points. |
| 60–79 | Good | Address the remaining high-severity gaps to push into the top tier. |
| 40–59 | Needs work | Multiple gap categories need attention. Start with the highest-severity gaps. |
| 0–39 | Critical | Fundamental gaps across most categories. Run the optimizer and review the full rewrite. |
After reviewing your gaps, click Optimize Content. Vizzybl rewrites your content to address each identified gap while preserving your brand voice and key messages.
The optimized output includes:
Review the rewritten content carefully. The optimizer targets citation gaps specifically — it adds data points, strengthens hooks, and structures claims for verifiability. You control what to keep and what to adjust before publishing.
After optimizing your text content, you can optionally generate supporting media assets:
Visual assets improve your Media pillar score and give AI engines additional context to reference when citing your page.
